Ryan Cohen joined the Zalkin Law Firm in 2014 with extensive experience in juvenile and indigent advocacy. Beginning in law school, Ryan has devoted his legal career to assisting survivors of childhood trauma, including representing social workers tasked with child abuse investigation and intervention as a San Diego County Counsel, as well as foster youth and parents in the juvenile court system. He has tried more than 90 cases in juvenile court and has appeared in both state and federal courts. Ryan has also handled a variety of types of other cases, including general personal injury, foreclosure, title and bankruptcy litigation.

Ryan completed his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Davis, where he majored in History and minored in Political Science. During college, Ryan worked for the Yolo County Board of Supervisors. Ryan is a graduate of California Western School of Law where he received his J.D. in April 2008 and was awarded the Academic Achievement Award in Trial Practice. In addition to his work to support families and children in juvenile court, during law school Ryan also taught at Monarch School for unhoused children in downtown San Diego and worked at the California Innocence Project. He was admitted to the State Bar in California in December 2008.

Since joining the Zalkin Law Firm, Ryan has worked primarily on high profile childhood sexual assault cases, representing sexual assault survivors in personal injury cases against various youth serving organizations. Ryan has also litigated Title IX cases regarding campus sexual assault. In addition to his work with the Zalkin Law Firm, Ryan serves as one of the founding members of the Board of Directors for Children’s Legal Services of San Diego, a non-profit organization tasked with providing legal representation for all foster youth in San Diego County.
