Video Transcript:
Our firm represents adults who were victims of childhood sexual abuse. Many adults come to us and they say you know I remember now that when I was twelve or thirteen years old I was abused by Father O'Riley and I've had a life long problem with alcohol, I haven't been able to keep my job. I've had trouble in my marriage. I feel this constant feeling of angst or anxiety and I didn't really understand that those problems may have been related to what happened to me when I was twelve or thirteen years old. Can I do something about that? Is there something I can do about what happened to me? Can I seek some kind of legal recourse?
And the answer is that you can, in many states legislators have now realized, as more and more information has come out about the consequences of child molestation, have realized that people don't even understand that what's happened to them as children had caused them these injuries and have now made allowances in there statutes of limitations to allow people to bring a lawsuit and to seek legal recourse, to seek some sort of civil justice for what happened to them because often times the perpetrator is dead and there is no criminal recourse, their only recourse is to go after the institution that employed that perpetrator, who may have known about what the propensities of this perpetrator and did nothing to protect the children that ultimately were hurt.
