Video Transcript:
In looking at these cases and trying to determine what is a fair compensation, we look at an entire matrix of issues: What was the nature of the abuse? How long did the abuse go on? What was the duration of the abuse? How old was the person when the abuse occurred? What have been the life's consequences, has there been substance abuse? Has there been an inability to form a meaningful love relationship? Are there sexual disfunctions? Does the person have problems with authority? Are they unable to keep a job? Have they not been able to stay in school?
These are all the factors that we look at and weigh, in trying to determine what is a fair compensation, what has been the harm. We look at what kind of treatment can be provided, is it in house in patient care, out patient care? Are there groups of therapists that might be required from a group therapist to private personal therapy? Sometimes this affects - child abuse doesn't just affect the one person who's been abused, it affects an entire family. It may affect parents, it may affect children, it may affect spouses and we try to get the kind of care and treatment necessary to help everyone.
